Open-rank/track faculty position in Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology within the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center.

About the role

Physician specializing in Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology to serve as a member of the Division of Medical Oncology. Responsibilities include:

• Direct and indirect patient care in inpatient and outpatient settings, including ambulatory clinics.
• Conduct patient interviews, obtain and review medical histories, perform physical examinations, and assess medical or surgical needs.
• Perform relevant oncology procedures, order diagnostic testing, and prescribe treatment plans or medications.
• Respond to consultation requests and document all services in medical records.
• Educate patients and families on wellness, prevention, and early detection.
• Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities.
• Serve as a preceptor and provide training to residents, fellows, medical students, nursing staff, and allied medical professionals.
• Ensure continuing medical education requirements are met.
• Engage in departmental, college, medical center, and university committees and service activities.

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is the 3rd largest cancer hospital in the U.S., featuring a 398-bed state-of-the-art facility. The GI Oncology program includes:

• 18 dedicated GI oncology-focused physicians (9 medical oncologists, 5 surgical oncologists, and 4 radiation oncologists).

Requirements

• Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
• Completion of an accredited Oncology/Hematology Fellowship.
• Board Certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible or certified in Medical Oncology.
• Ability to meet medical licensure requirements in Ohio.
• Active certification from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Faculty Tracks

• Clinical Faculty: Titles include assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, and professor-clinical. Focus on exemplary clinical care, with potential involvement in teaching and/or research. Appointments are for terms of three to five years and are not eligible for tenure.
• Tenure-Track Faculty: Titles include assistant professor, associate professor, or professor. Eligible for tenure with a primary focus on research, service, and teaching. May also be involved in clinical care.
• Research Faculty: Titles include research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. Focus on research with appointments for terms of one to five years. Not eligible for tenure.
