Physician - Hospitalist - EDRP Authorized

Summary

The Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System (ICVAHCS) is seeking two (2) Full-Time - Physicians (Hospitalist) to join the Specialty Care Service Line at the VAMC in Iowa City - Iowa. Note: This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT through September 17 - 2026. The first referral cut-off is July 16 - 2026 - at 11:59 p.m. EST - with monthly cut-offs on the 1st. Applications received after each cut-off will be reviewed as needed until the position is filled.

Qualifications

• To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
• Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine
• The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
• Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification

Duties

• Responsibilities include - but not limited to:
• This position is General internal Medicine and accountable to the Chief of Inpatient (Hospitalist) Service and ultimately to the Chief of Medicine
• The incumbent will have knowledge of clinical delivery structures - electronic medical records - and experience in clinical management and administrative matters
• The incumbent will perform a variety of complex clinical and administrative tasks including but is not limited to:
• TMS training/yearly clinical competencies
• Patient education and guidance
• Timely and precise documentation
• Process workflow and other functionality regarding necessary clinical systems
• The incumbent will work to optimize the usage of clinical systems through education and training - quality outcomes - and providing support in accordance with organizational goals
• The incumbent will have proven communication skills (written and verbal) - team-building skills - and demonstrated ability to promote morale and teamwork
• The incumbent will have a general knowledge of military and civilian personnel management procedures of VA performance appraisals

• Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program
