Physician (Gynecology)

Summary

Northport VA Medical Center is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic Gynecologist to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to providing exceptional patient care and actively support the continued growth and development of our VA academic hospital program. Outstanding communication skills, a strong team-oriented approach, and adaptability within a dynamic healthcare environment are required.

Duties

1. Provide clinical care to both inpatients and outpatients according to established standards of care.
2. Assess indications for surgery and provide timely and appropriate surgical care in the operating room or suitable procedure area.
3. Be responsible for evaluating, accepting, and managing all patients admitted to the surgical service.
4. Conduct daily clinical rounds on the service and coordinate care with discharge planners, social workers, and other specialties to provide comprehensive care and continuity.
5. Develop a clinical practice and be expected to provide clinical care as a gynecologist.
6. Participate in on-call duties to provide surgical care on nights and weekends.
7. If not already board-certified in gynecology, work towards securing certification in obstetrics and gynecology.

Administration

• Participate in weekly faculty meetings with staff to promote improvements in care delivery and review outcomes to enhance safety and clinical outcomes in surgery.
• Maintain medical licenses and other professional certifications to continue working as specialty providers.
• Participate in local facility committees and conferences relevant to their area of expertise as appointed by the Chief of Surgery.
• Complete all required medical documentation associated with their clinical responsibilities correctly and in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with other members of the medical staff throughout the facility to improve communication among services and promote higher quality, reliability, and effective health care.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Exceptional communication skills, a strong team-oriented approach, and adaptability within a dynamic healthcare environment.
