About the role
The VA Western NY Healthcare System is seeking a full-time geriatrician to serve within the Community Living Center (CLC). This position functions as part of an interdisciplinary team providing care in a fast-paced, Veteran-centered, and quality-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and/or attending oversight including completing admission H&P, progress notes, transfer notes, continuing provider review notes, and talking with veteran families.
- Be an integral member of the Geriatrics & Extended Care line, working closely and coordinating patient care with other staff members in the care line.
- May cover as Medical Director of the Community Living Centers, overseeing all providers and ancillary staff assigned to these facilities/programs.
- Supervise or collaborate with geriatric mid-level providers, providing clinical oversight and participating in peer review of other geriatric providers through periodic chart reviews.
- Supervise, educate, and evaluate internal medicine residents, medical students, and fellows in the Community Living Centers and Home-Based Primary Care settings.
- Maintain responsibility for setting up half-day clinics to conduct geriatric assessments for veterans.
- Work schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8am to 4:30pm.
Requirements
The position requires a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the United States. Applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English and be able to pass a background/security investigation.
Qualifications
- Completed residency training in an approved specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Board certified or board eligible in geriatrics.
