Physician Geriatric Psychiatrist - EDRP Authorized

About the role

The position is available in the Community Living Center (CLC), Hospice, and Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) settings. The applicant will work face-to-face and by video link for HBPC.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations (including history, mental status exam, diagnosis, and treatment planning).
• Provide ongoing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment for mental health conditions within the psychiatrist's scope of practice.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to review cases and coordinate care.
• Document clinical care in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) in a timely, accurate, and professional manner in accordance with VA policy.
• Provide clinical consultation to other staff as needed.
• Support measurement-based care and population health strategies, including responding to clinical alerts, abnormal screenings, and patient-reported outcomes.
• Engage in suicide prevention and risk reduction practices, including completion of Suicide Risk Assessments, Safety Plans, and appropriate documentation.
• Maintain compliance with all applicable VA policies, Joint Commission standards, and professional practice standards.
• Participate in peer review, quality improvement, and other professional activities as assigned.

Requirements

This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Subject to change based on the needs of the agency.

Qualifications

• To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
• Basic Requirements:
• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Education

• Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
• For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
