About the Role
Functions as a physician performing the duties of a gastroenterologist. The physician provides comprehensive evidence-based care to a designated patient population, delivering gastroenterology services in the medical office setting as well as to hospital patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The role ensures communication with referring physicians to maintain a continuum of care for all patients.
Responsibilities
- Practices gastroenterology incorporating established quality standards.
- Participates in the gastroenterology call schedule for Thompson Peak and Shea campuses.
- Collaborates with TPK Administration and other medical staff leadership to develop a GI outpatient clinic and laboratory, and identify new opportunities to expand GI services.
- Develops treatment protocols, clinical pathways, quality standards, and best practices in inpatient and outpatient GI medicine.
- Works with departmental leadership to establish standards for accepting patients into GI service.
- Actively engages in the TPK peer review process.
- Participates in regularly scheduled Medicine and other staff committees requiring collaboration with Services.
- Meets with consulting and referring community physicians to determine effective communication processes for continuity of care.
- Collaborates with the Medical Director to provide fiscal accountability for the service.
- Establishes positive rapport with community-based physicians, emergency department, intensive care units, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, respiratory therapy, and other service areas.
- Collaborates with Case Management and Clinical Documentation Specialists.
- Utilizes the Medical Director in difficult situations.
- Identifies new opportunities to expand Gastroenterology services in collaboration with administration and community physicians.
- Ensures complete understanding of and adherence to EMTALA regulations.
- Complies with all HonorHealth Medical Staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Adheres to documentation standards for all medical care rendered.
- Participates and complies with all patient safety indicators.
- Participates in the recruitment and retention of physicians.
- Facilitates and supports the mentoring of other physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and healthcare professionals.
- Creates a climate for professional practice with other disciplines.
- Supports the vision and values of the organization.
- Attends and participates in Departmental Committee meetings.
- Plans, coordinates, facilitates, and participates in educational programs dealing with gastroenterology care.
- Participates in CME planning for the Hospital under the direction of the Medical Director.
- Works with the Director of Medical Education and Medical Director of Academic Affairs to assure appropriate teaching opportunities for residents and medical students.
- Participates in the education of nurses and other ancillary professionals.
- Participates in research activities within the gastroenterology program to improve quality of care.
- Collaborates with the Vice President for Research and the Medical Director to identify research opportunities in gastroenterology.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Internal Medicine and fellowship training in gastroenterology. Required
- Recent direct acute care clinical experience. Preferred
- Board-certified or Board Eligible physician in Internal Medicine and gastroenterology. Required
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. Required
