Physician - Gastroenterologist
About the role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Responsibilities
- See patients in both outpatient clinic and inpatient service for diagnosing, treating, and managing based on standard and customary methods and techniques.
- Review gastroenterology consults in both outpatient and inpatient settings and staff with fellows, residents, and APPs as needed.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy procedures, polypectomies, variceal banding, PEG placement, esophageal dilation, etc.
- Administer and manage moderate/conscious sedation used during procedures.
- Share call coverage and inpatient consult service with other attendings.
- Participate in section and service meetings, quality assurance programs, and chart reviews.
- Complete all medical record documentation within guidelines and appropriate deadlines, including e-consults, encounters, CPRS documentation, correctly code visits in accordance with coding guidelines, etc.
- Complete CME as required to maintain competency in specialized sections and medical licensure.
- Participate in administrative work assignments, including program building as assigned by the Section Chief and the Service Chief.

Qualifications
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Experience in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and/or Esophageal Manometry.
- Rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
- Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4.
- Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other.
- Both eyes required.
- Depth perception.

- Ability to distinguish shades of colors.
- Hearing (aid may be permitted).

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME). Schedule
No overnight travel. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.
