Work Location: Fargo VA Health Care System / Fargo VA Medical Center, Fargo, North Dakota. This position is performed onsite; remote or telework services are not authorized for the clinical services described.

Type of Employment: Full-Time. Positions Available: 2 FTEs.

About the Role

The Hospitalist Physician will provide Board Certified/Board Eligible hospital medicine physician services onsite to beneficiaries of the Fargo VA Health Care System. Approximately 95% of the physician's time will be devoted to direct patient care, with approximately 5% dedicated to administrative responsibilities. The Hospitalist Physician will coordinate the full inpatient episode of care from admission through discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite inpatient hospital medicine services to Fargo VA beneficiaries.
  • Perform patient admissions, histories, and physical examinations.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat hospitalized patients.
  • Develop and manage appropriate inpatient treatment plans.
  • Provide medication management and monitor patient response to treatment.
  • Coordinate the full inpatient episode of care from admission through discharge.
  • Provide advanced care planning as clinically appropriate.
  • Obtain and coordinate subspecialty consultations.
  • Provide consultation and referral services.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and appropriate patient follow-up.
  • Provide perioperative medical care and management.
  • Respond to acute and critical patient-care situations.
  • Participate in code and rapid-response activities.
  • Perform selected medical procedures within approved clinical privileges.
  • Document patient care accurately and timely within VA electronic health record systems.
  • Complete applicable coding and clinical documentation requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in patient-safety reporting and related initiatives.
  • Attend required staff, quality, administrative, and clinical meetings.
  • Complete mandatory VA training and continuing education requirements.
  • Maintain VA credentialing, privileging, and system-access requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate communication and coordination with VA clinical personnel and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide services in accordance with applicable VA policies, procedures, professional standards, and clinical privileges.

Requirements

  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or jurisdiction; North Dakota licensure is preferred.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
  • Relevant professional hospital medicine experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or equivalent as required.
  • Must successfully complete applicable VA credentialing and privileging requirements.
  • Current National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration, as applicable to assigned duties.
  • English language fluency and appropriate technical proficiency.
  • Must satisfy required occupational-health documentation requirements.
  • Must maintain required Continuing Medical Education (CME).
  • Must complete applicable VA-required annual training.
  • Must maintain all professional credentials, certifications, and privileges required to perform assigned hospitalist services.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must successfully complete applicable VA suitability/background investigation, PIV/system-access, privacy, and information-security requirements.

Schedule

Hospitalist services are required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year, including Federal holidays. Coverage consists of two 12-hour shifts: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., local time.

Pay

Estimated pay: $158.18 per hour.
