Physician (EP Cardiologist)

About the role

The Robley Rex VA Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrophysiologist to join our Cardiology team. This key position will drive our pacemaker program, run a high-volume outpatient clinic, supervise MRI safety, and provide 24/7 coverage of the Electrophysiology (EP) service in partnership with a Nurse Practitioner.

Responsibilities

• Drive our pacemaker program
• Run a busy outpatient EP clinic with 15-minute appointment slots
• Supervise and ensure MRI safety protocols for patients with cardiac devices
• Collaborate with a dedicated Nurse Practitioner for around-the-clock EP service coverage
• Teach, mentor, and supervise cardiology residents and fellows
• Maintain thorough documentation and comply with VA policies and procedures
• Perform advanced electrophysiology procedures including leadless pacemaker implantation, Mays procedures, defibrillator management, catheter ablation, cryoballoon ablation, epicardial ablation, and screening for sudden death in patients with cardiac sarcoidosis
• Engage in quality improvement, clinical education, and interdisciplinary teamwork

Requirements

A robust commitment to resident and fellow education is essential. A strong background in research in rhythm disorders is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must meet the basic requirements as outlined in the job announcement
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation
• Must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
• Must have a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
• Must have proficiency in spoken and written English
• Must have recent teaching experience and fellow and resident supervision
• Must be able to perform complex lead extractions and Mays Procedures
• Must have recent teaching experience for cardiology fellows

Skills

Board-certified electrophysiology physician with specialized skills in implanting pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices: Complex lead extractions, Mays Procedures, Supervise Fellows and residents, provide oversight for monitoring, adjusting, and troubleshooting these devices, EP Physicians will be in charge of surveillance monitoring
