Physician, Endocrinologist (32 to 36 hrs/wk) - Virginia (VA)

About the Role

We are seeking Physicians specialized in Endocrinology and Obesity Medicine to join our innovative, multidisciplinary chronic disease management team. A valid medical license to practice and prescribe legally in Virginia (VA), Massachusetts (MA), or New York (NY) is preferred, along with a Letter of Qualification (LOQ) with the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) if living in an IMLC-eligible state.

This is a Modified Full-Time position (W2, 32 or 36 hours/week) designed for an American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certified Endocrinologist with demonstrated expertise in obesity medicine, comprehensive diabetes management, and a strong interest in collaborative care. The role includes a rotating after-hours call schedule with reduced clinical hours during on-call weeks. Based in a remote, telemedicine setting, the physician will work closely with a supportive care team and have protected time for supervision, teaching, and administrative duties.

A critical aspect of this role is ensuring safe and effective management of patients with complex comorbidities, including Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), and cardiovascular conditions, while integrating Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) and insulin pump therapy.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a telemedicine setting, focusing on evidence-based treatment for obesity and comprehensive diabetes management, including insulin titration and care for patients using insulin pumps and/or CGMs.
• Maintain your own panel of patients and collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and Registered Dietitians specializing in diabetes treatment, primarily Type 2 Diabetes.
• Review charts and conduct initial and return visits for APP patients every third visit to ensure quality, continuity of care, and appropriate management of CKD/ESRD and cardiovascular conditions.
• Provide advanced treatment planning and medical management support for complex endocrinology cases, escalated concerns, and patients requiring specialized protocols.
• Prescribe non-controlled medications for obesity and diabetes, both for direct care and in coordination with APPs.
• Conduct weekly 30-minute collaborative meetings and 30 minutes of asynchronous communication with each assigned Endocrine-Specialized APP to review cases, address clinical challenges, and provide mentorship.
• Ensure clinical documentation, protocols, and treatment pathways are consistently followed, with a focus on guidelines for managing complex diabetic populations.
• Support the professional development of colleagues through clinical growth initiatives, feedback, and continuing education in endocrinology and obesity medicine.
• Participate in team-based care initiatives and contribute to a culture of collaboration and high-quality care.
• Attend relevant departmental meetings and contribute to quality improvement efforts within the diabetes and obesity medicine program.

Requirements

• Board certification in Endocrinology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
• Highly preferred: Certification by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) or demonstrated extensive clinical experience (minimum 3 years) in obesity medicine and pharmacotherapy, including older-generation oral and newer injectable medications.
• Active and unrestricted medical state license in any U.S. state, with preference for Virginia (VA), New York (NY), or Massachusetts (MA). Multi-state practice capability required; applicants must either hold a valid Letter of Qualification (LOQ) through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) or meet prerequisites to secure one rapidly upon hire.
• Demonstrated competency and comfort in managing patients with complex comorbidities, including CKD, ESRD, and cardiovascular conditions.
• Expertise in advanced diabetes management, including the use of CGMs, insulin pumps, and complex insulin regimens.
• Strong interest in mentoring, teaching, and collaborating with Endocrine-Specialized APPs and Registered Dietitians specializing in diabetes.
• Demonstrated experience working with APPs, medical residents, or trainees in a clinical or academic setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Adherence to evidence-based treatments, behavioral interventions, nutrition, and pharmacotherapy for endocrine disorders and obesity.
• Commitment to delivering patient-centered, culturally competent care.
• Bilingual candidates with medical fluency in Spanish are highly preferred.

Pay

Base Annual Salary: $168,000—$207,000 USD.
