Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Duties
- Assists the Chief of Staff in supervising clinical service chiefs and ensures compliance with VHA directives, The Joint Commission standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Supports evidence-based practices and clinical innovation.
- Collaborates on clinical strategic plans, advocates for necessary resources (staffing, technology, equipment), and promotes financial stewardship and efficient resource utilization.
- Leads clinical quality improvement initiatives, monitors key performance indicators (SAIL, access, patient satisfaction), and promotes a "Just Culture" and psychological safety through HRO leadership behaviors.
- Supports recruitment, retention, and professional development of clinical staff, fosters an inclusive and collaborative environment, and ensures effective communication of clinical priorities.
- Oversees academic relationships and Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs, facilitates integration of research and clinical care while ensuring rigorous ethical responsibility and safety.
- Serves as Acting Chief of Staff in the absence of the Chief of Staff, with full delegated authority to manage clinical operations.
