Physician – Department of Anesthesiology, General Anesthesiologist (Open Rank/Track Faculty)

Department: The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek exceptional board certified/eligible anesthesiologists to join our elite team within the Department of Anesthesiology.

About the Role

The primary duties of the positions will be providing perioperative care at the University Hospital, The James Comprehensive Cancer Hospital on the main campus and our expanding outpatient surgical centers. The department prides itself on close collaborative interaction as a member of a diverse and inclusive team. Leadership opportunities are available for qualified candidates.

Positions can be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Department Overview

The Department of Anesthesiology is composed of 128 physicians, 103 CRNA/CAA’s, 10 clinician scientists, 80 residents, 9 fellows, a large complement of anesthesia technicians and 13 administrative support staff. Comprised of six academic divisions—Critical Care, Pain, Cardiothoracic, OB, Ambulatory and General Anesthesia—the Department provides comprehensive anesthesia services throughout the health system, including off-site and regional locations.

The department is deeply invested in teaching and training, offering four ACGME-accredited fellowships in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, critical care anesthesiology, obstetric anesthesiology, pain medicine and regional anesthesiology as well as additional fellowships in neuroanesthesiology and Executive Leadership and Business in Anesthesiology. An additional ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology is offered in partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Requirements

• MD or DO
• Successful completion of an accredited Anesthesiology Residency Program
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology
• Eligible for an Ohio Medical License

Faculty Tracks

• Clinical Faculty (regardless of rank) – Titles include assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, and professor-clinical. These faculty hold an MD, DO, PhD, or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years, renewable. Their principal focus is delivery of exemplary clinical care, with possible involvement in teaching and/or research.
• Tenure-Track Faculty (regardless of rank) – Titles include assistant professor, associate professor, or professor. These faculty hold a PhD, MD, DO, or other terminal degree and are eligible for tenure. Their primary focus is research, service, and teaching, with possible involvement in clinical care for those with MD, DO, or MD/PhD degrees.
• Research Faculty (regardless of rank) – Titles include research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty hold a PhD or other terminal degree. Research faculty are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal focus is research.

• State-of-the-art diagnostic, treatment, and inpatient service areas; imaging; operating rooms; and critical care and medical/surgical beds
