Physician - Chief of Radiology

About the role

The VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) seeks a dynamic leader to serve as chief of the radiology service. VABHS is a multi-campus academic medical center affiliated with Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCASM) and Harvard Medical School. VABHS provides tertiary care to Veterans from throughout New England and is VAs largest research facility with more than $120 million in direct research costs. BUCASM is the primary academic affiliate for radiology.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the development and implementation of radiology policies and procedures.
• Oversee the daily operations of the radiology service, ensuring optimal patient care and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of radiology services within the healthcare system.
• Manage the radiology budget and financial plans, ensuring alignment with overall healthcare objectives.
• Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including referring physicians, industry partners, and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards governing radiology practices.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to radiology staff, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
• Engage in research activities, contributing to advancements in radiology and patient care.
• Represent the radiology service at institutional and national conferences, promoting best practices and sharing knowledge.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Board Certification in Radiology-Diagnostic Preferred
• Experience: Senior administrative/management roles: Previous experience as a manager or director in a radiology department is highly preferred. Leadership and team building: A proven track record of leading and managing diverse teams is essential. Budget and financial management: Experience in managing budgets and financial plans for the department is a key requirement. Operational management: Experience with the day-to-day operations of a radiology department, including workflow efficiency and staff supervision. Advanced imaging technologies: Familiarity with and experience using advanced imaging technologies is often required.
• Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.
