Physician, Chief Medical Officer

About the role

This position is eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the assigned CBOC.
• Must possess a broad spectrum of clinical and administrative knowledge which provides the ability to manage a large Primary Care program, specifically with regard to Veteran and staff customer satisfaction, quality of services provided, and efficiency of service delivery.
• Coordination of the clinical care of all patients within the clinic, while working in collaboration with Primary Care, Women's Health, ER/Urgent Care and Surgical and Medical Sub-Specialty Services.
• Facilitation of communication among patients and their families along with the VA and outside primary care physicians, hospitalists, and subspecialists.
• Responsible for oversight and coordination of process improvement initiatives, assuring teamwork and addressing customer service and service recovery issues in the clinic.
• Providing patient care in accordance with professional standards, core values and commitment to excellent service. The incumbent will be committed to supporting Patient Centered Care, to include the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model and provide direction and leadership for PACT to ensure that the facility's goals and benchmarks for integrated care delivery are met; must have a working knowledge of national programs such as SAIL (Strategic Analytics for Improvement and Learning) and HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set).
• Develop and administer performance plans and appraisals for subordinates as required by VA regulations.
• The incumbent is also responsible for assuring services provided by the CBOC meet the standards set by accrediting agencies which govern the quality of care for the Medical Center, to include, but not limited to the Joint Commission, the Office of Inspector General (OIG), and VA System-Wide Ongoing Assessment and Review Strategy (SOARS).
• The incumbent also performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
• Basic Requirements:
• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
