Responsibilities
- Report administratively to the health services administrator, and clinically to the MTC Corporate Medical Director.
- Provide medical services related to diagnosis and treatment of detainee patients and emergency treatment of staff and visitors.
- Ensure appropriate healthcare is accessible and provided to the detainee population in a timely fashion.
- Render medical judgment regarding care provided to detainees assigned to the facility in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives, along with the Community Standards of Care.
- Perform complete medical histories and physical examinations; form clinical impressions based upon findings; order diagnostic tests, interpret results of laboratory tests and radiological examinations, prescribe medications, and render treatments appropriate to clinical impressions.
- Inspect, complete and analyze medical records, assign review and update medical classifications; complete admission notes, progress notes, treatment plans and discharge summaries and make rounds on patients admitted to the medical unit.
- Serve in rotation with other providers to provide after-hours and weekend patient care, if required, to include accepting on-call rotation.
- Refer patients for specialty consultations and treatment through the utilization manager process.
- Utilize established corporate, facility and corrections policies and procedures in making decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position.
- Evaluate provision of services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of services.
- Maintain security and confidentiality of all patient's medical records. Observe applicable HIPPA rules.
- Evaluate provision of services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of services.
- Monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
- Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.
- Comply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those regarding controlled substances.
- Provide health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis, as required.
- Assist corporate counsel with responses to detainee lawsuits.
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings, QI, UM, P&T, and other meetings as required.
- Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services.
- Comply with requirements of applicable regulations, laws, policies, standards and contracts.
- Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
- Requires long periods of walking and standing.
- Regular attendance required.
- Promote the development of positive social skills among staff and detainees through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
- Maintain accountability of detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.
Requirements
- MD or DO Board Certified or Board eligible in Emergency Medicine, Family Practice or Internal Medicine.
- Valid license to practice medicine in the state of Texas, and current continuing education required by MTC Medical and professional regulatory board.
- Current DEA and current BLS certification.
- Must successfully complete required pre service training.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Pay
$350,000 annual salary + Potential Relocation Assistance: $25,000
