About the role

The Physician Assistant_Surgical Oncology collaborates with Oncology Surgeons, referring physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate surgical oncology consultations and provide patient care. They support Renown Health's mission, vision, and values by ensuring efficient and effective patient care services.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Oncology Surgeons, referring physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate surgical oncology consultations and provide patient care.
  • Organize, plan, staff, direct, coordinate, empower, and market Oncologic surgery patient care services.
  • Interact with internal and external contacts, exercise sound judgment, and make decisions.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and families.
  • Provide optimal patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of adult and geriatric patients and families.
  • Work effectively with all inpatient services to integrate operations effectively.
  • Understand all clinical providers within the hospital structures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other community care providers and Renown staff.
  • Manage patient care in alignment with Renown’s purpose, fundamentals, and standards of conduct.
  • Ensure productivity and profitability for all operations.
  • Lead staff to assume accountability for decisions and actions for patient care in the unit.
  • Participate in the growth and development of the palliative care program.
  • Aid in the coordination and development of ongoing education for staff in Specialty Care/Infusion Center and inpatient units.
  • Render emergency medical treatment of patients when required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Baccalaureate Degree preferred.
  • Two years’ experience as physician assistant.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Physician Assistant license.
  • Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.
  • Board Certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required at time of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.

Qualifications

  • Working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Knowledge of all clinical providers within the hospital structures.
  • Effective communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Ability to establish positive working relations with Provider Staff.
  • Work efficiently and cooperatively in a multi-physician/provider office setting.
  • Work as part of a team toward clinic goals.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential records.
  • Participate in quality assurance, peer review programs, and health care outcome evaluations.
  • Direct nursing and/or medical assistant duties consistent with clinic protocols.
  • Ensure the highest quality of care requiring a code of ethical practice, evidence of continuing professional development, and maintenance of clinical skills.
  • Act as a patient advocate through ethical and legal standards.
  • Combine the roles of provider, mentor, educator, researcher, manager, and consultant, as applicable.
  • Interpret the role of the Physician Assistant to individuals, families, and other professionals.
  • Work efficiently, cooperatively, and autonomously in long-term and acute care facilities, as applicable.
  • Comply with the provisions of NRS 630 and Regulations of the Nevada State Board of Medicine.
