Physician Assistant - Surgery - Bariatrics (Clear Lake)

About the role

The Physician Assistant (PA) (ACLS) at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group functions as an advanced practice practitioner, responsible for maintaining and promoting the health of patients requiring care. This position provides diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and preventative care under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Responsibilities

• Examines, diagnoses, and decides treatment for patients, including analyzing and interpreting x-rays and lab results.
• Writes prescriptions, takes patients' histories, provides surgical assistance, and orders various forms of therapy.
• Works independently under the license of a physician or as part of a treatment team, affecting direct patient care according to state and hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree, graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program by the NCCPA.
• Experience: One year of clinical experience.
• Licenses and Certifications: Required PA - Physician Assistant - State Licensure - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation_PSV, BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association, ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association, DEA - Narcotics License (DEA) - Drug Enforcement Administration_PSV within 6 months.

• Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary for patient and staff interaction.

Essential Functions

• Leadership: Demonstrates leadership as a clinical resource, inter-professional consultant, and patient advocate.
• Interprofessional Collaboration: Participates in rounding, interdisciplinary rounds, and collaborates with the inter-professional health care team.
• Communication: Acts as a role model and coaches staff in effective communication.
• Service: Coordinates patient care between health care providers and other clinicians, advocates for patient/family concerns, and manages/coordinates patient care.
• Quality/Safety: Performs independent or delegated functions under physician license, reviews medications and test reports, and contributes to professional practice standards.
• Finance: Implements department strategies to achieve financial targets, mentors others, and documents care accurately and timely.
• Growth/Innovation: Fosters identification and implementation of innovative solutions to improve patient care or department operations, and provides education in professional activities.
