Physician Assistant (PA) - Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU)

About the Role

This Critical Care Physician Assistant (PA) position in the CTICU is accountable for a defined patient population under the supervision of an ICU-credentialed physician. Implements the role of expert practitioner, consultant, educator, and researcher within a specialized area of patient care. Provides preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic healthcare services within the scope of licensure and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Some positions will be responsible for being on call according to a predetermined schedule or as needed, pursuant to hospital needs. Credentialed in Medical Staff with critical-care-defined competencies/procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic healthcare services for a defined patient population in the CTICU.
• Serve as an expert practitioner, consultant, educator, and researcher within a specialized area of patient care.
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures and scope of licensure.
• Participate in on-call duties as required by the hospital.

Requirements

• Master's Degree in a Physician Assistant Program.
• Current PA licensure in California.
• BLS for Health Providers (AHA).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider (AHA).
• Certification: Physician Assistant, National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Controlled Substance registration (II, IIn, III, IIIn, IV, V) as required by department and scope of practice. If required, must request Medical Staff Privileges and complete the AHP Medical Staff privileging process for prescribing Controlled Substances 2-5.
• Current DEA certificate (tracked and maintained by Medical Staff Office).
• Medicare Billing number (NPI-National Provider Identifier) upon hire but no later than 3 months of employment.
• Successfully complete the credentialing process through Medical Staff Services.

Preferred Qualifications

• NRP Advanced Provider (AAP).
• 2 years of experience as a CTICU Physician Assistant.
• 2 years of experience in a direct clinical care position within the specialty area if no CTICU PA experience.

Pay

The current salary range for this position is $74.51 to $102.45 per hour. Rady Children’s Hospital is committed to compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable. The range listed does not represent the full salary range for the position but is the expected hiring range for qualified candidates. Compensation decisions consider a variety of factors including experience, education, licensure, unique skillsets, organizational need, and internal equity.
