Physician Assistant, PA - Cardio-Thoracic Surgery , OR

About the role

Mending broken hearts is at the core of being a Physician Assistant (PA-C) in Cardiothoracic Surgery. As a Physician Assistant, you will work under the responsibility and supervision of the surgeon, performing diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend their services through the more effective use of knowledge to establish diagnosis and to plan and implement therapy. You will have a major role being a patient's advocate in the medical system serving as a confidant, advisor, and liaison between patients and physicians. Your expertise will be utilized in all aspects of care: pre-, post-, and operative care.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks under the supervision of the surgeon.
• Establish diagnoses and plan and implement therapy.
• Serve as a patient advocate, confidant, advisor, and liaison between patients and physicians.
• Provide care across all aspects: pre-, post-, and operative.

Requirements

• Two (2) years of recent experience in cardiothoracic surgery preferred; recent board-eligible graduates are eligible but a clinical rotation in CT Surgery is required.
• Endoscopic Vein Harvesting highly preferred.
• Bachelor of Science degree in a physical science from an accredited institution required.
• Graduate of an accredited physician assistant/surgical assistant program required.
• Completion of courses of training for both basic and advanced cardiac life support required.
• Must be certified by the NCCPA (National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants) and the Pennsylvania State Board of Medical Education and Licensure.
• This position requires wearing a respirator as part of the job requirement.

Schedule

Full time — 40 hours/week. 4–10 hour shift schedule Monday–Friday with weekend and holiday rotation.
