Northwestern Medicine seeks a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Memory Neurology team. This position provides specialized outpatient care for patients with cognitive and memory disorders in a collaborative, transdisciplinary clinic setting.
Clinical Setting
- Independent clinic setting within a transdisciplinary team
- Primarily outpatient-focused with occasional inpatient coverage
- Collaborative practice with physicians and other health professionals
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient histories and physical examinations
- Provide direct clinical care to assigned patient populations
- Prescribe medications and therapies; order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures according to clinical privileges
- Evaluate patients to determine need for further health care
- Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
- Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as consultant in areas of expertise
- Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
- Maintain clinical expertise through evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making
- Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care
- Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives pertinent to the specialty
- Serve as preceptor and role model to students
- Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces as appropriate
- Maintain all required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- No call responsibilities
Requirements
- Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing (for APRN) OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- For APRNs: Acute care certification required (inpatient experience as an NP may be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
- For APRNs: First Assist Certification
- Current RN license in the State of Illinois (for APRN candidates)
- Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois (for APRN candidates)
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board (for APRN candidates)
- Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Illinois (for PA candidates)
- Ability to obtain controlled substance license and DEA number
- Privileged and credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience in Neurology, Geriatrics, or Psychiatry
