Physician Assistant-Open Heart, Baptist Health Cardiac Surgery -OR, FT, 7:00am-3:30pm

About the role

The Open Heart PA at Baptist Health works closely with specific surgeons, providing patient care through face-to-face interactions or via telehealth. This role involves conducting surgical history/physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic/lab tests, developing a care plan, writing prescriptions, assisting in surgeries, managing patients before, during, and after operations, and overseeing outpatient clinics.

Responsibilities

• Conducts surgical history/physical exams
• Orders and interprets diagnostic/lab tests
• Develops a plan of care
• Writes prescriptions, controlled substances per Dileneation of Privleges
• Assists in surgery
• Performs surgical procedures in the operating room under supervision
• Performs procedures in the clinic under supervision
• Manages patients in the pre, intra, and post-operative settings
• Performs inpatient rounding, consultations, wound care, and bedside procedures
• Facilitates family and patient education
• Participates in grand rounds
• Works directly with staff, administration, patients, and families to ensure quality care
• Performs on-call coverage for weekdays, weeknights, and weekends

Requirements

Masters Required. 5 years of APP experience required. Obtain medical staff credentialing and privileges. Compliant with state requirements for CEUs/CMEs and licensure renewal. DEA License required as per specialty. BLS and ACLS required as per specialty. Experience in endoscopic vein harvesting is preferred.
