Job Summary
Physician Assistants (PA) are graduates of accredited educational programs, nationally certified, and state licensed professionals. They independently prescribe Schedule II-V controlled substances using their own DEA number and signature. Reporting to the Manager APP, this position supports cardiac surgery programs at Troy, Royal Oak, and Dearborn campuses, including on-call, weekend, and holiday requirements based on department needs.
Areas Of Responsibilities
- Utilize high-degree discriminative judgement for medical management, including assessments, history and physical examinations, and condition evaluations.
- Order and interpret appropriate laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and therapeutic modalities, developing diagnostic impressions and comprehensive care plans.
- Develop and implement treatment plans based on current guidelines and physician input when necessary.
- Consult with healthcare professionals as needed based on patient conditions.
- Write and execute orders for medications within prescriptive authority, adhering to state and federal regulations and practice agreements.
- Document all medical findings in H&P/Transition of Care, progress notes, procedure notes, discharge instructions, and summaries.
- Instruct and educate patients and families on health status, test results, disease processes, and care plans, promoting health promotion and preventive care.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree or equivalent from an AMA-accredited PA program meeting state requirements.
- Previous first assist experience required.
- Vein harvesting experience preferred.
- Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in Michigan.
- Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Registered with the DEA for Michigan.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from AHA.
