USC Care Medical Group serves as the sole physician entity reporting to the USC Health System, uniting faculty clinical practice under Keck Medicine of USC. This entity oversees clinical governance, physician and ambulatory services, and core enterprise functions including billing, contracting, and financial operations. The organization encompasses 17 clinical departments, with approximately 1,500 physicians and 2,000 staff delivering care across more than 80 locations from Kern County to Orange County and into Las Vegas.

About the role

The Physician Assistant (PA) II is a licensed health professional who practices medicine with the supervision of a physician. The PA II has greater than three years of experience as a PA and is involved in coordination of care, education, and clinical practice. The PA II functions as a leader of the professional team by communicating, planning, and implementing care directly and with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, office support staff, and other advanced practice providers.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain detailed and accurate medical histories from patients; perform appropriate physical examinations, delineate problems, and record the information.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans, including coordination of referrals to specialty and social services, recording progress notes, and providing continuity of care.
  • Order appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, radiographic studies, and indicated procedures; order therapies including PT, OT, ST, and Respiratory; order consultations and medications.
  • Perform and/or interpret common laboratory, radiological, cardiographic, and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiological processes.
  • Perform procedures based on privileges approved by medical staff.
  • Coordinate patient care with the rest of the team.
  • Provide continuity of care in the management of complex illnesses and injuries under physician supervision.
  • Instruct and counsel patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance, including postoperative care and involving family members when appropriate.
  • Facilitate referrals to other health and social service agencies.
  • Ensure billing for services rendered is completed and accurate.
  • Act as a mentor and/or preceptor to new or student physician assistants within the department or clinic.
  • Participate or lead quality initiatives, process improvement projects, or research within the department or clinic.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Physician Assistant.
  • Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning, and evaluation skills.

Qualifications

  • Physician Assistant (PA) license issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs (CA DCA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – if no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required within LA City only).
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate issued by the US Department of Justice for Schedule II-V controlled substances (current Controlled Substance Course Certificate or obtain within 3 months of hire).

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position is $158,080.00 - $260,832.00.
