Physician Assistant I Cardiac Surgery Inpatient Nocturnist
Job Summary
The BWH Cardiac Surgery Service is a 24/7 PA run service requiring rotating weekends and holidays. This position qualifies for enrollment in MGB Shift Commitment program, paid in two semi-annual lump sum payments totaling $20,000.
About the Role
This position works 13-hour nights in the cardiac surgery ICU and step-down units, collaborating with cardiac surgeons and ICU staff.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients in the cardiac surgery department.
- Aids surgeons in the operating room, performing technical clinical procedures.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
- Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Performs bedside procedures as appropriate to the patient population.
- May have additional duties, such as precepting a small number of learners.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Physician Assistant required.
- 2+ years of experience as a PA preferred, but will consider outstanding candidates with less than 2 years of experience.
- Cardiac/cardiac surgery and ICU rotation or relevant work experience mandatory for new graduates.
Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of clinical surgical practices and procedures for cardiothoracic patients.
- Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
Additional Job Details
This position works nights, weekends, and holidays. It is an Onsite position located at 75 Francis Street with scheduled weekly hours of 40.
Pay and Benefits
Base pay range: $122,803.20 - $173,867.20/Annual
Grade: 7
