About the Role

The Principal Faculty member, as a full-time instructor in the Physician Assistant Program, is responsible for course instruction and/or coordination in the didactic and/or clinical phases. The role involves course design, delivery, and evaluation to ensure students meet program learning outcomes and competencies required for PA practice. The Principal Faculty supports curriculum assessment and accreditation standards under the guidance of the Program Director and Directors of Didactic/Clinical Education.

Responsibilities

• Provides teaching and instruction in the PA program, including:
  • Coordination and instruction of courses as needed
  • Lecturing in areas of clinical and/or professional expertise
  • Academic advising as a small group facilitator and student advisor
• Assists the Director of Didactic Education in administrative coordination of the didactic phase
• Assists the Director of Clinical Education in administrative coordination of the clinical phase
• Supports curriculum development, evaluation, and improvement
• Evaluates student performance through OSCEs, lab practicals, clinical reasoning sessions, and assignments (e.g., written documentation, research projects)
• Creates examinations aligned with ARC-PA Accreditation Standards and the NCCPA Content Blueprint
• Contributes to accreditation activities, program evaluation, and mission statement review
• Participates in the admissions process, including open houses, application reviews, candidate interviews, and selection meetings
• Engages in service, community relations, PAC meetings, and scholarly activities
• Participates in annual faculty development opportunities
• Assists with clinical site development and monitoring
• Provides remedial instruction as needed
• Performs additional duties as assigned by program leadership

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program
• Terminal degree as a Physician Assistant
• Current or emeritus NCCPA certification
• Eligibility for state licensure or an active, unencumbered license in the assigned state (for PAs with active certification)
• 1–2 years of teaching experience in a graduate health-related profession (highly preferred)
• 2 years of clinical experience (required)
• Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching (preferred)
