You will be assigned to a facility or facilities in your local community.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments for LTC residents
- Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with Medicare and LTC best practices
- Implement and document Medicare-compliant gradual dose reduction (GDR) strategies
- Monitor and treat chronic mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and dementia-related behavioral disturbances
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—nursing, medical providers, social services, rehabilitation, and facility leadership
- Complete accurate documentation of assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes using the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Participate in care plan discussions, facility meetings, and case collaborations as needed
Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the state of Iowa (through the Iowa Board of Medicine)
- Completion of required supervised practice period in accordance with Iowa law (or equivalent experience)
- Valid/Current DEA registration
- Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
- Prior experience in psychiatry
