Responsibilities

  • Provide bedside care for critically ill patients in a 12-bed Surgical ICU alongside residents, medical students, APC students, fellows, and faculty attending physicians.
  • Perform procedures based on need, training, and proficiency.
  • Participate in team meetings and education conferences.
  • Assist in creation of SICU APC and Resident call schedules.
  • Engage in opportunities for research and quality improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with multiple team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Work Environment and Frequency

  • Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
  • Often: Exposure to infectious disease, oils, and other cutting fluids; proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, scaffolding, high places, or chemicals.

Physical Requirements and Frequency

  • Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
  • Often: Repetitive hand motion (e.g., typing), walking, standing, sitting.
  • Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

Requirements

  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system, to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP, and/or ATLS may be required by department or privileging criteria.
  • This position is patient-sensitive and requires compliance with all associated immunization standards per CDC and hospital policy; limited exemptions may apply for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

  • Critical care experience preferred but not required.
  • Inpatient experience preferred.

Pay

Pay range: $101,650 – $135,000 annually.

Schedule

45–50 hours per week (clinical and nonclinical duties). 13 shifts per month (approximately 13-hour day shifts with sign-outs), including a minimum of 5 night shifts per month. Variable shift schedule.
