The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Utah seeks qualified, board-certified Physician Assistants to join our growing practice. As the only academic medical center in the Intermountain West, we perform nearly 1000 cardiothoracic surgery cases annually, including advanced heart failure, mechanical support, and thoracic transplantation. Our Division is team-focused and serves as a central training hub for Thoracic Surgery residents and PAs in the region. Responsibilities

  • Full perioperative scope of practice
  • Shared floor and ICU responsibilities
  • Consults, discharges, and clinic follow-up
  • Chest tube placement and removal
  • Arterial line and central line placement as needed
  • Endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting
  • Assist in all aspects of surgery
  • Outpatient care coordination
  • Take complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation
  • Perform physical examinations
  • Order laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies, and other diagnostic procedures
  • Order and supervise the administration of blood products
  • Reach tentative diagnoses of medical, surgical, and other conditions
  • Develop treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician
  • Participate in continuing medical education, including specialty meetings and conferences
  • Assist in the collection of data for research projects
  • Order consultations and interact with members of other specialty medical teams
  • Participate in special projects and committee functions

Requirements

  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Utah
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system (to be obtained within 30 days of hire)
  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by department or privileging criteria
  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements, including immunization per CDC standards and hospital policy (limited exemptions may apply for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs)

  • Nearly Continuously: Office environment, hearing, listening, talking
  • Often: Exposure to infectious disease, oils, hazards (e.g., moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals), repetitive hand motion, walking, standing, sitting
  • Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead

Pay

$112,237 - $143,104

Schedule

Full-time, including days, weekends, weeknights, and holidays
