Physician Assistant - Acute Care (Emergency Room)

About the role

UTHealth Houston is seeking an Emergency Room Physician Assistant (AP) for Night shifts at Lydon B. Johnson Hospital and Memorial Hermann Hospital (TMC). This full-time position offers comprehensive emergency medical care in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive emergency medical care, including medical screening assessments, diagnostics, and treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as labs, imaging, and EKGs; perform advanced procedures; and document patient encounters accurately in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in trauma and resuscitation efforts, communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members, and ensure continuity of care through appropriate referrals and follow-up planning.

Requirements

• Current Texas Licensure as a Physician Assistant.
• Current Physician Assistant certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified.
• Proficient in the use of medical and surgical instruments and equipment required by work.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree as Physician Assistant required.
• Previous Experience In Area Of Clinical Focus preferred.
• Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

• Ability to manage Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Schedule

Multiple Night Shifts: 6 PM-6 AM, 6 PM-2 AM, 10 PM-6 AM, 6 PM-4 AM.

Disaster/Inclement Weather Procedures: Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs) and Faculty members are considered essential personnel and may be required to report during unexpected disasters or inclement weather events.
