Responsibilities

  • Practice in the areas of Obstetric Anesthesiology
  • Advance clinical excellence, education, research, and quality improvement initiatives within obstetric anesthesia services
  • Provide strategic oversight of labor and delivery anesthesiology services
  • Develop and implement clinical protocols and quality initiatives
  • Collaborate closely with Obstetrics & Gynecology, Neonatology, Nursing, and hospital leadership to ensure high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care
  • Lead and support educational programs for residents, fellows, and medical students
  • Mentor faculty and trainees
  • Contribute to curriculum development
  • Promote and engage in scholarly activity, including clinical or translational research
  • Represent the division at institutional and national levels

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical license
  • Successful candidate must have completed an anesthesiology residency program, and ideally a fellowship in obstetric anesthesiology
  • Successful candidates must be board certified / eligible in Anesthesiology

About The WVU Health System

Since 2016, WVU Health has undergone explosive growth and the Department of Anesthesiology has been a critical contributor. Housed in J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, the Department provides anesthesia care for more 45,000 procedures per year. The Department of Anesthesiology is committed to excellence and innovation in education. The Department supports nine ACGME-accredited residency positions every year for a total of 36 residents. We have two fellows in ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic anesthesia, one fellow in ACGME-accredited regional anesthesia and acute pain, and two fellows in ACGME-accredited Pain Medicine fellowship. We extensively use a highly-recognized, anesthesiologist-developed simulation center for education in all levels of training.
