Physician and Surgeon, Correctional Facility (Internal Medicine/Family Practice)

California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) seeks to fill a Permanent/Full-Time Physician and Surgeon, Correctional Facility (Internal Medicine/Family Practice) position in the Medical Services Unit.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Chief Physician and Surgeon (CP&S), the Physician & Surgeon (P&S) will mentor other HIV specialists and assist the CP&S with HIV projects. Responsibilities include evaluating and co-managing patients in special populations, such as those diagnosed with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis C (HCV), or Hepatitis B (HBV) infections, with or without concomitant substance use disorder (SUD), within the California Department of Corrections (CDCR) patient population. Moderate travel to correctional facilities to provide on-site patient care or other related activities may be required.

This position is located in Special Populations HIV/HCV/HBV, Medical Services, which provides safe, effective, and efficient health care to patients within CDCR’s 35 institutions. The Central Pharmacy dispenses prescriptions to both inpatient and outpatient settings and provides clinical pharmacy services where necessary. Pharmaceutical care is delivered to each prison by local staff of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across all levels of patient care (inpatient to ambulatory).

This position is based at Headquarters in Elk Grove, Sacramento County.

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 16, and related Excluded, Exempt, and Statutory Exempt employees, to have their base salary reduced by 4.62% and receive eight PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through December 2026. Salaries listed do not reflect these recent changes.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site patient care at correctional facilities as required, involving moderate travel.
