GENERAL SUMMARY
The physical therapy residency is a program that provides clinical and didactic educational opportunities provided by the Henry Ford Health system, designed to advance the knowledge and clinical skills of a physical therapist working in the Orthopedic care specialty practice area.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs patient assessment, treatment, discharge planning and collaboration with other health care providers.
- Documents patient care and billing information timely and in accordance with department standards.
- Communicates with co-workers, and other professionals, including physicians and nurses as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
- Functions as a team member in care of patients and in mentoring with other staff.
- Delegates aspects of patient care to support staff per PT/PTA MI Licensure Administrative Rules providing necessary communication and supervision.
- Maintains clinical productivity standards.
- Advances technical clinical expertise through ongoing clinical education.
- Participates in in-services, staff meetings, quality activities and aspects of program development.
- Maintains awareness of patient safety issues within the clinic and in the use of equipment. Assists in the maintenance of patient care equipment as needed.
- Maintains patient confidentiality according to Henry Ford Health HIPAA policies.
- Maintains adherence to all applicable Federal/State law/regulations, APTA standards of practice, MI Licensure requirements, the Henry Ford Health Integrity/ Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, as well as all other Henry Ford Health policies and procedures.
- If requested, represents Henry Ford Health at community and professional functions.
- Participates in clinical education programs as approved by the Site Coordinator of Clinical Education.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Requires Master's or Doctorate degree acquired from a Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited program.
- Requires current State of Michigan licensure or be eligible to obtain licensure prior to established deadline; deadline is established annually by the residency program and published within the application process, generally 3 months prior to the start of the cohort. Failure to obtain licensure by the due date will result in forfeiture of applicant's entry into the program.
- Current CPR certification required.
