Job Summary

The Physical Therapist evaluates patients, plans and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of physical therapy. The Physical Therapist demonstrates proficient clinical knowledge and skills in delivering care to assigned age-specific patient populations within an interdisciplinary team environment.

About the Role

Demonstrates an appropriate level of clinical skill, as evidenced by completion of comprehensive and insightful evaluations and the development of individualized and effective treatment plans, designed to achieve precise, functional goals.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care at the highest level in variable hospital settings - Outpatient, Inpatient, Subacute, and Wound-care in all Pipeline Health Hospitals.
  • Uses excellent communication skills to educate patients and engage them in their own care.
  • Communicates/collaborates with other disciplines, patients, and their family.
  • Makes appropriate discharge recommendations to the interdisciplinary team and coordinates the follow-up with vendors or other ancillary support personnel on any outstanding orders to ensure patient safety.
  • Conferences with Providers and other allied health professionals to make recommendations for occupational therapy treatment programs.
  • Attends and participates in department and multi-disciplinary meetings on regularly scheduled days and checks meeting minutes if unable to attend.
  • Prepares, maintains, and transmits accurate patient documentation including, EMR, charges, and productivity logs.
  • Able to safely and appropriately delegate and follow-up patient cases to Aide, students and Restorative Nursing Assistant/RNA.
  • Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external. Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
  • Completes and attends monthly training assigned.

Administrative Duties

  • Oversees department operations to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to clinical standards.
  • Schedules therapy sessions and manages patient caseloads.
  • Maintains and monitors equipment and supply inventory.
  • Recruits, trains, and evaluates therapy staff.
  • Aids in budget planning and monitoring for the therapy department.
  • Implements quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Acts as a liaison between therapy staff and hospital administration.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records related to departmental activities.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

  • Able to use IT systems in an accurate and proficient manner.
  • Wears nametag properly; follows dress code policy; answers phone correctly and promptly; is prepared for meetings; meets deadlines; does not participate in gossip; acts ethically and treats others with respect; respects customer’s and co-worker’s time; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and co-workers.

  • Attends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program.

Qualifications

One (1) year of current experience in an acute care setting, preferred.

Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.

A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.
