Physical Therapy Faculty Assistant

About the role

Designs, develops, and delivers high-quality instruction and course materials including syllabi, assessments, and clinical assignments.

Assesses student performance through timely grading, feedback, office hours, formal evaluation, and responds to emails within 1-2 business days when classes are actively in session.

Provides academic support to students through regular communication, individualized assistance, and targeted intervention strategies, including referrals to appropriate support services.

Advises students on academic progression, course planning, and career pathways, while providing mentorship in research, clinical practice, or field-based learning as applicable.

Participates in curriculum development and review, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, and supports assessment planning.

Develops and evaluates clinical curriculum, assigns students to appropriate clinical sites, provides orientation, and supervises the application of theory to practice in the clinical setting.

Contributes to program accreditation efforts and institutional effectiveness activities.

Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly activities, including research, publications, presentations, or other professional contributions within the discipline.

Maintains active membership in professional organizations and engages in ongoing professional development.

Participates in institutional committees and initiatives and represents the university at professional, community, and recruitment events as needed.

Assists with revisions of department policies and procedures.

Identifies and recommends community agency linkages for student learning experiences.

Identifies and documents student performance or conduct concerns, implements appropriate remediation plans, and follows institutional policies for disciplinary action or dismissal when warranted.

Evaluates learning resources such as reference material, audio/visual aids, computer-assisted learning programs, and library acquisitions.

Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Contemporary expertise in assigned teaching area consistent with standards established by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)
• If teaching clinical PT content, faculty member must be licensed in any US jurisdiction as a physical therapist
• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and student evaluation
• Well defined, ongoing scholarly agenda consistent with Boyer's model of scholarship and CAPTE standard 4B
• Ability to productively contribute to the mission and vision of the program and university
• Ability to work in both a face-to-face and online teaching environment
• Knowledge of computer based academic delivery systems
• Ability to work with a diverse student body and team
• Cooperatively work as a team member
• Self-directed
• Strong organizational skills
• Effective writing skills

Requirements

• Doctorate from a regionally-accredited academic institution, OR an earned clinical doctorate (DPT) with board specialty certification in area related to teaching content
• 2+ years of effective university-level teaching or a doctorate degree in the area of academic or professional expertise

Qualifications

• Peer reviewed publication - Acceptable publications, such as journal articles, books, and book chapters, shall be published in periodicals or venues recognized by the appropriate academic or professional organizations at the national level and/or professional accrediting associations
• Physical Therapist license
