Responsibilities

  • Assists the Physical Therapist in determining patient abilities and limitations, establishing treatment goals, and planning appropriate physical therapy treatments.
  • Completes documentation of patient status and progress under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
  • Reports observations of patient performance to the Physical Therapist.
  • Provides age-related and culturally sensitive patient care services.
  • Collaborates with patients, team members, and area staff during the rehabilitation process to ensure quality care.
  • Coordinates with the interdisciplinary team on patient needs, treatment modifications, and progress.
  • Assists in the safe and efficient management and maintenance of therapy program areas, equipment, and supplies.
  • Complies with quality control, safety, infection control, and emergency procedures consistent with hospital policy.
  • May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant required.
  • One year of direct patient care experience in a rehabilitation hospital setting preferred.
  • Basic Life Support/CPR Certification required.

Physical Requirements

  • Significant amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods.
  • Both gross and precise motor functions.
  • Lifting/exerting up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation.
  • Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and a computer keyboard.
