Responsibilities

  • Administer physical therapy treatments, interventions, and physical agents under the supervision of a Physical Therapist to restore or improve physical abilities, promote behavioral changes, adapt surroundings, and teach new skills.
  • Provide treatment in acute care, nursing home, short-term rehabilitation, and/or outpatient settings.
  • Independently carry out the PT treatment plan of care as established by the Physical Therapist.
  • Maintain licensure by obtaining required CEUs as determined by the NYS Practice Act.
  • Adhere to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
  • Treat the assigned number of patients per day and determine the need for follow-up visits to maximize functional outcomes.
  • Complete all required documentation following treatment, ensuring it reflects care provided and outcomes achieved.
  • Maintain current knowledge of insurance regulations related to therapy services.
  • Act fiscally responsible in the use and request of supplies and in submitting patient charges in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate patient care with other clinical team members to ensure optimal communication and patient care.
  • Maintain and enhance personal and professional knowledge while promoting professional standards in physical therapy.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Promote effective working relations and work as part of a team inter- and intra-departmentally.
  • Communicate patient progress or unexpected changes in status to supervising therapists, modify treatment plans as needed, and document findings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree from an accredited PTA program (required).
  • Experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant is desired but not required; new graduates will be considered.
  • NYS Physical Therapy Assistant license or valid temporary permit (required).
  • BLS CPR certification within 6 months of hire (required).

Physical Requirements

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly to move objects.
  • Occasional: Balancing, climbing, crouching, repetitive motion, stooping.
  • Frequent: Typing, clerical/dexterity tasks, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception), walking.
  • Constant: Hearing.

Hazards & Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to bodily fluids and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Pay

Salary is based on qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and industry standards. Pay range: $28.98–$43.47 per hour.
