About the role
The Physical Therapist (PT) plays a crucial role in administering medically prescribed Physical Therapy treatments to patients. They evaluate patients' levels of function, determine treatment strategies, and deliver or delegate PT services to help patients regain or improve their functional independence.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate patient’s level of function through examinations and assessments, including strength, movement, motor control, joint mobility, soft tissue integrity, pain, balance, coordination, posture, cardiopulmonary function, and endurance.
- Develop measurable goals with patients and families based on appropriate patient care protocols and critical paths.
- Implement and deliver patient care using appropriate interventions and clinical decision-making, including modalities like heat, cold, light, water, sound, electricity, mobilization, and therapeutic exercise.
- Provide patient and caregiver education about treatment, precautions, and equipment use.
- Participate in patient transition planning and/or discharge planning, recommending community resources to meet patient needs.
- Coordinate patient care with other healthcare providers such as Rehab Therapists, Nurses, Social Workers, and community resources.
- Delegate patient care tasks and provide clinical supervision for Physical Therapist students, Rehabilitation Aides, and Physical Therapist Assistants.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program by CAPTE.
- Current State of CT Physical Therapy license required or active temporary license at time of hire.
- Previous experience as a Physical Therapist preferred.
