Physical Therapist- Inpatient -Full Time

UnityPoint-St Luke's Downtown is seeking a full-time Physical Therapist for inpatient rehabilitation. This position offers 8 or 9 hour shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.

About the Role

The Physical Therapist is responsible for examining, evaluating, and testing patients/clients with mechanical, physiological, and developmental impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities or other health and movement-related conditions. Responsibilities include determining a diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of treatment intervention, as well as assessing ongoing effects of intervention in accordance with professional scope, State Practice Act, licensure, and UnityPoint Health policies. The role involves accurate documentation, billing, and maintaining communication with referring providers and teammates to develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care suited for various environments such as acute hospital, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, or home settings.

Responsibilities

• Performs examination and evaluation to determine diagnosis and prognosis, and appropriate intervention to achieve patient/client goals through a collaborative approach with the patient/family and healthcare team.
• Utilizes appropriate Physical Therapy interventions to produce desired outcomes.
• Ensures accurate documentation and billing to communicate progress and status to physicians, other healthcare professionals, and third-party reimbursement.
• Supervises Physical Therapist Assistants in accordance with state licensure laws.
• Applies critical thinking to make independent judgments and maintains responsibility for patient conditions.
• Demonstrates necessary skills and competencies of a physical therapist.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area and equipment by following hospital and departmental safety and infection control policies.
• Participates in joint interventions, communication, and quality assurance programs as a member of the Rehabilitation Department.
• Engages in continuous professional development and involvement in professional activities to enhance therapy practice through knowledge sharing, networking, and research.
• Assesses and selects appropriate teaching strategies for patient/family needs, considering age, culture, gender, readiness to learn, and comprehension level.
• Prioritizes patient and workplace safety by preventing errors, accidents, and infections, and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited Physical Therapy Program (Masters or Doctorate level).
• Current licensure in good standing to practice as a PT in Iowa.
• Completion of four hours of stroke education prior to the end of orientation and annually.
• Must possess and maintain current BLS certification or obtain certification within three months from date of hire.
• Fluent in written and spoken English with multicultural sensitivity.
• Basic computer skills and customer/patient-focused approach.
• Ability to use usual and customary equipment required for essential functions of the position.

Schedule

• Full-time, 1.0 FTE.
• Monday through Friday with 8 or 9 hour shift options.
