About the Role

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 19, and related Excluded, Exempt, and Statutory Exempt employees, to have their base salary reduced by 3% and receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries listed do not reflect this reduction.

Under the clinical direction of the Chief Medical Executive and the direct administrative supervision of the Chief Support Executive or Correctional Health Services Administrator I/II, the Physical Therapist I, Correctional Facility administers physical therapy treatments, including active, passive, restorative, and resistive therapeutic interventions to patients. The role involves interpreting the significance of physical therapy services to patients while complying with all applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.

The Physical Therapist I, Correctional Facility maintains order, supervises the conduct of incarcerated individuals, and ensures the safety of persons and property, as well as the security of working areas and materials.

Responsibilities

• Administer physical therapy treatments to patients in a correctional facility.
• Provide active, passive, restorative, and resistive therapeutic interventions.
• Interpret the significance of physical therapy services to patients.
• Comply with all state and federal laws, regulations, and departmental policies pertaining to the physical therapy program.
• Maintain order and supervise the conduct of incarcerated individuals.
• Ensure the safety of persons and property and the security of working areas and materials.

Requirements

• Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of physical therapy in California as determined by the California Medical Board. (Applicants may be admitted to the examination prior to meeting these requirements, but the California Medical Board must confirm compliance before appointment.)
