About the role

The Full Time - Days position at Houston Methodist is for a Physical Therapist I (PT) who assesses patients, develops therapy plans, educates patients and families, and collaborates with other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients to identify functional levels and develop therapy plans.
  • Develops and implements therapy treatment plans.
  • Provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team to modify treatment plans and discharge planning.
  • Serves as a resource to co-workers and assists in teaching and providing guidance to students and support staff.
  • Evaluates patients regularly, monitors progress, and modifies goals as needed.
  • Recognizes complications and collaborates with peers to address them for optimal outcomes.
  • Documents patient education procedures accurately and enters charges for services provided.
  • Maintains efficient use of resources and prioritizes daily tasks.
  • Contributes to meeting department and hospital quality and safety targets.
  • Offers innovative solutions through evidence-based practice/performance improvement projects.
  • Participates in departmental projects and hospital committees.
  • Expands learning beyond baseline competencies and assists in program development and clinical competencies.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s).
  • Required BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association.
  • PT - Physical Therapist - State Licensure - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation_PSV Compact license acceptable within 90 days.
  • Knowledge and abilities as outlined in the Qualifications section.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s).
  • Licenses and certifications: Required BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association andPT - Physical Therapist - State Licensure - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation_PSV Compact license acceptable within 90 days.
  • Experience: None.
  • Knowledge and abilities: Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.

  • Therapeutic communication, including active listening and teaching.
  • Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Proficient computer knowledge and operation of rehabilitation equipment.
  • Independent judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team, and patients and their families.
