About the role

The Physical Therapist plans and administers physical therapy treatment plans designed to alleviate pain, restore function, prevent disabilities, and promote overall fitness and health of patients. Completes patient evaluations based on information obtained through history, observation, subjective and objective measurements. Develops a plan of care tailored to the patient’s learning style and therapeutic needs, communicating goals with the patient and/or family members while considering psycho-social, cultural, and spiritual needs.

Provides therapeutic interventions for a wide variety of physical and/or functional limitations related to musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, and developmental impairments. Documents progress with measurable and functional goals. Maintains patient records according to hospital policy, including evaluations, re-evaluations, progress and treatment notes, charges, and discharge summaries within departmental time guidelines.

Assists in adjusting schedules to accommodate changes in caseload. Supervises the operation of a specific treatment team and meets with Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) regularly to discuss patient progress and set goals. Contributes to the overall performance of the department through professional development strategies such as competency training, clinical instruction, in-service coordination, mentorship, program leadership, meeting attendance, and performance improvement initiatives.

Demonstrates continued professional growth by setting goals and participating in educational offerings, independently achieving and maintaining continuing education units (CEUs) required for South Carolina LLR licensure. Communicates with physicians, other medical personnel, and members of the interdisciplinary medical team regarding treatment, patient progress, recommendations, and clarification of orders.

Utilizes appropriate health and safety equipment to protect both patients and staff. Ensures an orderly, clean, and safe work area. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Adjust schedules to accommodate caseload changes and supervise treatment teams.
  • Collaborate with PTAs to set and review patient goals.
  • Contribute to departmental performance through professional development, mentorship, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain licensure through continuing education and professional growth activities.
  • Communicate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams regarding patient care and progress.
  • Ensure a safe and orderly work environment; perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Physical Therapist license in South Carolina.
