About the role

This position involves providing direct resident care to individuals with physical disabilities and/or functional limitations in various settings. The role includes planning therapy programs, assisting residents in exercises and using devices, evaluating progress, educating residents and families, and leading the work of other therapists.

Responsibilities

  • Plans therapy program for neuromusculoskeletal residents, as prescribed by physician, including posture, gait, range of motion, muscle testing, sensory testing, specific extremity and spinal segmental motion, biomechanical analysis of functional activities, orthotic analysis (if trained), ergonomic analysis, and other relevant assessments.
  • Administers appropriate physical agents given physicians' protocols, residents' medical histories, and therapist's knowledge of indications and contra-indications, including electrotherapy, sound energy, heat/cold therapy, hydrotherapy, and JOBST compression.
  • Directs and aids residents in active and passive exercises, muscle reeducation, and gait and functional training, utilizing pulleys and weights, steps, and inclined surfaces.
  • Evaluates, records, and reports on residents' progress for review by other members of the rehabilitative team.
  • Supervises PTA(s) per state guidelines.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Physical Therapy
  • Current license in state of practice
  • Certification, if applicable, and demonstrated competency in identified areas of specialization
  • Organized and detailed in work performance
  • Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience
  • Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility
