Physical Therapist

This temporary staff position is responsible for providing specialized physical therapy evaluation and treatment of patients, including the development of plan of care, and ongoing treatment with patients through all phases of physical therapy. The role ensures every patient receives a unique experience through a comprehensive, thorough, and customized physical therapy regimen with an emphasis on quality care in a friendly and encouraging environment. Applicants must be accepted into the Northwestern University Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Fellowship.

Responsibilities

• Provide evaluation and treatment of incoming patients to determine appropriate physical treatment programs, including exercise instruction, manual therapy techniques, modalities, and other necessary treatment.
• Discuss treatment with patients and record patient conditions and responses to treatments. Complete daily patient care notes, progress notes, discharge notes, and other required forms for all patients prior to the end of each week within the medical record/practice management system.
• Maintain current knowledge of the physical therapist role as a primary care provider as well as evidence-based best practices.
• Communicate with referring physicians and other healthcare personnel regarding patient therapy and equipment. Document treatments rendered to substantiate appropriate billing and in the electronic medical record.
• Maintain and continue to develop clinical skills through continuing education.

Requirements

• DPT degree from an accredited physical therapy program.
• Appropriate state licensure, current and in good standing.
• Minimum one year of physical therapy experience.
• Excellent manual therapy skills.
• Advanced training in trigger point dry needling or willingness to obtain training within 6 months.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong team player with a commitment to University values.
• Ability to maintain friendly, cordial relations with all clients and employees; maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that results in a positive work relationship with customers, co-workers, and managers.

Physical Job Requirements

• Ability to lift or stabilize up to fifty (50) pounds frequently.
• Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve lifting or supporting up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Fine motor skills.
• Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach forward with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Must follow proper body mechanics and procedures for lifting/moving patients and utilize lift equipment as appropriate.
