Essential Functions
- Treat patients to relieve pain and/or develop or restore function to reach the highest level of independence possible.
- Instruct patients and their families in the use of prosthetic, orthotic and assistive devices (canes, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.).
- Write clinical progress notes on the date of the visit for inclusion into the patient’s permanent record.
- Attend Physical Therapy staff meetings, conduct in-service presentations and case conferences.
- Perform an on-site, joint visit with the assigned Physical Therapist initially, and communicate regularly for instruction in changes in the patient’s program.
- Communicate regularly with the case manager and other health care professionals assigned to a case.
- Instruct patients and their families in transfer techniques, home exercise program and activities of daily living as assigned by the physical therapist.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Current, valid PTA license issued by NYS Department of Education required.
- One year of practical experience as a licensed Physical Therapy Assistant.
Education Requirements
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
Work Environment
- The PTA is primarily a non-office setting and may be exposed to outdoor conditions.
- The working conditions are classified as medium work: Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Medium work involves sitting and standing.
