About the role

Mission: Manhattan Behavioral Center (MBC) is New York City’s leading transdisciplinary ABA® center for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related neurodiversities. Our approach combines applied behavior analysis, special education, speech language therapy, physical and occupational therapy, sensory integration, group and social interaction, and family support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct therapy on a 1:1 basis for up to 21.5 hours per week to individuals between the ages of 4 – 21 years old with autism and other special needs under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT).
  • Aid in the provision of formal and informal physical therapy assessments of each client on caseload under the supervision of a licensed PT.
  • Complete daily session notes and monitor patient progress.
  • Write semi-annual progress reports describing clients’ achievement with goals as per the PT plan of care.
  • Develop annual goals and objectives for each client on their caseload under the supervision of a licensed PT.
  • Submit all thorough and complete paperwork in a timely manner to the PT supervisor.
  • Build and maintain a professional and positive relationship with parents/caregivers and outside providers by ensuring frequent communication (e.g., check-ins, recurring updates, etc.).
  • Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary setting with other providers (e.g., BCBA's, OT's, and SLP's) that are clients’ team members.
  • Perform data collection, reinforcement procedures, and/or behavior management interventions (Crisis Prevention Intervention - CPI) in accordance with each client’s behavior management plan and center policies.
  • Physically move students or equipment, position students in specialized equipment, and/or change diapers or other personalized sanitary items as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor (e.g., prepare and maintain therapeutic equipment, set up and clean up treatment spaces, assist in training staff in use of equipment, and student exercise programs).

Requirements

  • Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited physical therapist assistant program.
  • Licensing/ Certification: Valid New York State Physical Therapist Assistant License.
  • Experience: Preferred 2 years’ pediatric experience in the field of PT and more specifically with individuals with autism.
  • Familiarity with the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test and Peabody Developmental Motor Scales.

Monday - Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

Pay

$65,000 to $70,000 per year based on education, experience and certifications
