PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT - PRN

Department: Rehab Services - SRMC | FTE: 0.05 PRN | Shift: Days

About the Role

Performs physical therapy procedures and related tasks. Ensures adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities

• Patient Safety:
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve through questioning current policies and processes.
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations they don’t understand or may "not seem right."
• Records: Develop and maintain administrative records, reports, and statistics as required.
• Professional Development: Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops.
• Patient Care:
  • Assist the Physical Therapist during patient testing, evaluations, and complex procedures.
  • Carry out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients, as determined by evaluation performed by a Physical Therapist.
• Patient Education: Instruct patients on segments of the program, including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.
• Equipment:
  • Obtain and return required equipment.
  • Maintain and care for equipment and supplies.
• Patient-Centered Care: Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable.
• Policy & Procedure: Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs.

Requirements

• Education: Associate Degree in a related discipline.
• Experience: No minimum experience required.
• Credentials:
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire.
  • New Mexico Physical Therapy Assistant Licensure; permanent within 3 months.
• Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred.

Physical Conditions

• Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Medium Work.
• Working Conditions: Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, odors, bad weather, and noise.
• Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required.

Pay

Shift differentials: 17% for Weekday Nights, 26% for Weekend Nights, and 15% for Weekend Days.
