The East Central Ohio ESC is looking to add an additional team member as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA). Under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA implements intervention and therapy to develop the functional abilities of students. This includes activities designed to improve gross motor skills, strength, coordination, balance, and muscle development.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Ohio Physical Therapist Assistant license
- Valid Ohio Department of Education license or permit appropriate for the assignment
- Valid Driver's License
- Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are representative of performance expectations, but are not considered all inclusive:
- Works with small groups and/or individual students to perform therapy activities as directed by the Physical Therapist
- Devises or adapts equipment to facilitate therapy outcomes
- Exercises students to increase strength, balance, coordination, endurance, and mobility skills.
- Helps students improve mobility, restore function, diminish or relieve pain, and limit permanent physical disabilities
- Positions students
- Guides students in therapy regimens
- Monitors student use of therapy equipment
- Provides instruction in the use and care of therapy equipment
- Follows all safety precautions when using therapeutic techniques and treatment; promotes the proper use, care and storage of equipment
- Helps teachers implement classroom modifications and other activities identified in the Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Supports an inclusive educational environment and helps students with disabilities participate in appropriate peer group activities as directed
- Assists the Physical Therapist in assessing students, completing complex evaluations, and determining the appropriate treatment procedures
- Works with the Physical Therapist and/or teacher to address mobility problems
- Prepares written materials (i.e. activity logs, progress notes, reports, memos, etc.) to document activities; submits all therapy reports for review/co-signature as required
- Develops a therapy schedule and works with staff to ensure services are provided in the least restrictive educational environment
- Prepares the assigned therapy area and sets up necessary equipment
- Schedules home visits when necessary to support therapy goals
- Works to maintain a positive therapy environment; helps parents/guardians and students understand therapy goals and communicates high expectations
- Participates in conferences, staff meetings, and personal growth opportunities as directed
