About the role
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), also known as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA), works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to carry out treatment plans for patients recovering from surgery, illness, or injury. Responsibilities focus on improving function, reducing pain, and promoting safe discharge.
Responsibilities
- Implement treatment plans designed by the Physical Therapist (PT).
- Assist with patient mobility, including helping patients get in and out of bed, walk, use assistive devices, and perform exercises safely.
- Monitor patient responses, observing and reporting progress, pain levels, or adverse reactions during therapy sessions to the supervising PT.
- Educate patients on proper movement techniques, safety precautions, and the use of walkers, crutches, or other mobility aids.
- Prepare equipment by setting up and cleaning therapy areas, and ensuring equipment is functioning properly.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Physical Therapist Assistance.
- Current state Physical Therapist Assistant license.
- Current BCLS (AHA) Certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- Healthcare experience preferred.
