About the role

The Staff Physical Therapist Assistant assumes clinical responsibility in an assigned facility. This is a professional position with the primary responsibility of direct patient care under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. Additional duties of an administrative nature are to be performed as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Follows the plan of care, instructs and aids patients in active and passive exercise, muscle re-education, gait training, functional, ADL, transfer, safety, and prosthetic training.
  • Observes, records, and reports to the supervising PT, the supervising nurse, and/or the physician the patient's response to treatment and changes in the patient's condition.
  • Instructs patient, family, caregiver, and other members of the health care team in the areas of therapy in which they can participate to assist the patient.
  • Visits patient according to Plan of Treatment; complete a daily note for each visit.
  • Participates in developing the Plan of Treatment as needed with communication with the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Adheres to Therapy Standards of Practice in the provision of services to all patients.
  • Reports to the Physical Therapist information relating to the patient’s progress, complication, and /or response to treatment.
  • Aid the Physical Therapist in performing procedures, tests, and complex treatment to ensure the safe, effective evaluation and treatment of patients.

Requirements

  • Currently possess a degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited institution.
  • Possess, prior to, onboarding and maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant in assigned State.
  • Must be able to take direction from registered therapists and other team members to promote patient treatment and safety.
  • Must be able to work independently with periodic (daily or less) support and direction.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently with periodic (daily or less) support and direction.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of physical therapy techniques and protocols.
