About the role

The Physical Therapist Assistant performs selected patient treatments under the general supervision of the Supervisor and/or Physical Therapist, Director or his/her designee. Prepares patients and equipment for treatment; helps perform the housekeeping duties of the department; performs other diverse duties as required or requested. Reports To Rehab Supervisor

Requirements/Qualifications

• One (1) year of department/facility experience preferred; entry level acceptable if individual skills are above average.
• Must have verification card of current instruction in CPR.
• Must be a graduate from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program.

Position Duties

Ensures the safety of patients.
Prepares equipment for patient treatments as requested by the Physical Therapist.
Performs housekeeping duties of their areas by routine and periodic cleaning; to maintain order and cleanliness throughout the department/facility as needed.
Aids the Physical Therapist in selected procedures, according to the Physical Therapist’s directions, by checking patient and equipment during treatment for both comfort and safety; to aid inpatient care in the department/facility.
Practices Physical Therapy consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice policy in the manual for a Physical Therapist Assistant.
To maintain a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the department/facility.
To confer with the Physical Therapist most closely associated with the Active management of the patient and to keep them informed of patient needs for treatment modification, and/or progression.
Treats patients of all ages (e.g., infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, elderly, (ages 0-120 years), race, creed, gender and disability without bias or prejudice and according to age specific appropriate treatments.
Respects and understands the patient’s rights to treatment and right to involvement in treatment decisions.
Practices ethical responsibility based on cultural, ethnic and religious beliefs of the patients served and applicable law.
Aids with bookkeeping procedures when necessary, and charting of their assigned area, assuring confidentiality of all records.

Physical And Environmental Requirements

• Good physical stamina in this department/facility; fairly strong, energetic, much walking, standing, writing, stooping, carrying, talking, seeing, bending, handling, color vision, speed; healthy back is necessary; able to be on your feet most of the day.
• Able to walk, stand, stoop, lift, balance, sit, kneel, hear, reach, pull, talk, see, turn, carry, push, handle, write.
• The degree to which any of these is done depends on the techniques being used.
• May be exposed to muscular strain in supporting, lifting or assisting patients.
• Able to actively participate and adhere to policies and procedures as enumerated in the risk management program and QA.
• Able to keep current and adhere to policies and procedures as enumerated in the policy and procedures manual of the department/facility.
• A high degree of accuracy is required in carrying out prescriptions; in receiving and translating information; in charting and reporting.
